Trade Schools, sometimes called vocational trade schools are a great way to begin or expand careers in everything from cosmetology to carpentry. If you are planning to enroll in an online trade school, you should look for state-approved or state-accredited schools because they carry more influence with employers than non-accredited schools. Most people who attend a trade school want to work as soon as possible after receiving certification so it's important to get state certification in your trade. Most skills will also require you to take some type of certification examination for the state. Make sure the trade school you are considering trains you properly for any exams you may have to take.

Once you have found a school you think you might like, always ask around. Talk to the administrators of the school, the instructors and some of the graduates of the school. Compare the various trade schools in your specific geographical area for the specialty you want to go into. Learn as much as you can the facilities and equipment of the trade schools you are considering and see if they are what you need.

What types of computers and tools will be used for training? What supplies and tools must students provide during the training. Visit the school if you can. You'll get a better idea of what you're getting yourself into.

What percentage of students is able to complete the program successfully? Don't enter a school with a high dropout rate. Are the training credits earned transferable to other schools or colleges if necessary? This could be important. Don't accept an answer like "Well, it's up to other schools".  Always ask accredited colleges or other training programs if the credits you earn are transferable to their school.

Do you have time to complete the program? and Do you have the support of others in your household for your studies? This is important. Of course, you can also attend some trade schools online. Your dedication to your studies however, will make all the difference in your satisfaction with the program. If you need a live instructor showing you hands on, then don't try an online class. If you read well and enjoy studying by yourself, then online school may be the way to go.

Is it affordable? and do they have a payment plan or financial aid available for the program? Even if they don't have financial aid, the administrators may be able to direct you to state or federal financial aid services. These programs always require a ton of paperwork but it often is worth it. Be patient with these programs because some financial aid programs take time to be approved. Most accredited online trade schools qualify for federally funded financial aid programs aimed at getting people into schools who would otherwise not be able to afford it.

Can you stop and retart the course or continue the course later?  This could be important if you fall ill. 

Trade schools are the perfect solution for someone in a hurry to get an employable skill in a specialized profession with a demand for workers. Some of the shortest trade schools are Truck Driving Schools where the training program will only last 3 to 6 months at most.  Cost is nearly $5-6,000 which in most cases can be financed by the school itself.  Work is almost always guaranteed and starts at around $40,000/yr depending on the company you join and the type of driving you do.
